1. Tell us a bit about the story behind the Brydon Brothers and how it all begun?
Well we are four brothers ; Tom, Henry, Jack, Max - so I guess it started in the mid 80s when Mum brought my unruly bunch to life. The concept of the brand started when we began digging into our family history, looking for stories of people and places that played in a part in our Brydon ancestry. There is too much to write about here but it turns out we were quite an entrepreneurial family since the early 1800s. Attempting to create something new in the 21st century, and being strong believers in doing one thing and one thing well - we noticed a gap in the market for a luxury belt that isn't marked up to crazy luxury prices - at the same time being a British brand paying homage to the rugged landscapes our family called home over the centuries. We launched in 2015 having spent around a year developing our first range to a standard we felt quality enough to get in front of new customers and since then we've continued to listen to feedback and release new ranges season to season.
2. Classic French or New World wine?
Tough to choose but I'd say we probably drink more Old World. Lockdown has got us experimenting more though so you'll just as likely see a half empty Pinot Noir or Malbec in our kitchen.
3. If you were on Desert Island Discs, what would your luxury be?
I couldn't live without my music; I'd dig out my old iPod - 160Gb - 40,000 songs. No apps or any of that nonsense needed. I would work through every album and hope that one day I get invited onto Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
4. Who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?
Ernest Shackleton, Daft Punk, Bill Bailey, Hunter. S. Thompson and Louie Theroux - (he'd get everyone chatting).
5. Is there a book by your bedside at the moment?
I'm currently reading 'Educated' by Tara Westover.
6. If you could own one painting in the world, what would it be?
I'm no art expert but having Hokusai's The Great Wave in your lounge would give me some bragging rights.
7. Finally, how has lockdown been for the Brydon Brothers? Is there anything exciting we can expect in the run up to Christmas?
We've powered on and dealt with lockdown as best we can - like most businesses. Being a direct to consumer online business we've been lucky not to be exposed with bricks and mortar store fronts. That said, buying a belt hasn't been top of one's priority list during Covid, so we've focused on designing new styles as well as working on launching a women's range.
