Burgundy
Burgundy is home to the finest and most expensive wines in the world. Although Bordeaux makes nearly four times as much wine, Burgundy's wine is just as prestigious. There are lots of great value and affordable Burgundy's too. With 100 appellations and over 3000 wineries there is a vast range of diversity in styles. The easiest way to get to grips with the region is the fact that there are two main grape varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The grapes are grown across many subregions that all create their own distinctive style. The main ones being Cote d'Or, Cote de Nuits, Cote de Beaune, Cote Chalonnaise, Maconnais, Chablis and the Auxerrois. The landscape across the region is famous for its limestone soils which gives the wines their distinctive minerality and complexity that so many people love.
