The late, great Denis Durantou not only produced magic at his legendary Pomerol estate Eglise Client, he also oversaw production at a handful of properties in some of Bordeaux's less famous appellations. Montlandrie is from the Cotes de Castillon and largely made up of Merlot. It is medium bodied and so approachable your glass will be empty before you know it.

    Bordeaux

Bordeaux really is the oh là là of French wine. A UNSECO world heritage site, this place is home to the world's most expensive wines, and for good reason! With over 6,000 wineries and 57 appellations it can be relatively complicated to get your head around. Napoleon was the man who categorized the best wineries in Bordeaux to make it easier to identify the crème de la crème. Incredibly, the classification of 1855 is still in force today. There are five different cru classification systems, that include 88 wineries from Grand Premier Cru to Premières Crus and beyond, with most of the classified regions situated in the great Médoc region. Merlot is the most planted grape, and no surprise that 89% of the all Bordeaux wine is red. However white wine has always been an integral part of the history of Bordeaux and was more widely produced than red wine until the mid 1950's. Primarily famous for sweeter styles like Sauternes, dry white wine is blooming due to increased production and consumer demand.
