2006 Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Aux Reignots

Vinous 90-93

Medium red, with the color a bit suppressed by a recent sulfur addition. Red fruits dominate the slightly muted nose. Then sweet and supple in the mouth, with lovely finesse and seamless texture to the sappy red fruit flavors. Today the SO2 squashes the wine’s finish, but this should ultimately make a silky, stylish drink. [Stephen Tanzer, 03/01/2008]

Lachaux’s 2006 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots displays dazzling, high-toned aromatic complexity of flowers, herbs, and black fruits accompanied by smoked meat. In the mouth this veritably vibrates with energy and interactive complexity of salt and chalk with herbal, floral, and carnal strands. Texturally refined yet with palpable underlying firmness, its increasingly stony sense of underlying minerality as it finishes lends a hint of austerity, but that is complimented and offset by bittersweet suggestions of coffee and mocha; a liqueur-like yet not superficially sweet concentration of black and blue fruits; and an uncanny sense of lift and vivacity. Look to savor it from around 2012 and for a dozen or more years thereafter. [David Schildknecht, 01/12/2009]
