2007 Le Dome, Saint-Emilion

Good deep red-ruby. Black cherry and Baker’s chocolate on the nose. Juicy, spicy and firmly built; the roundest and most concentrated of the Maltus wines from Saint-Emilion but also nicely lifted by violet and minerals. Finishes with lingering sweetness. [Stephen Tanzer, 07/01/2010]

Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2007 Bordeaux tasting. I’ve never been a huge fan of this vintage from Jonathan Maltus; I think he’s made better and improved his winemaking since this. The 2007 Le Dôme has a dainty bouquet with maraschino cherry and fresh strawberries, a little monotone at first but gaining definition all the time in the glass and displaying fine focus. The palate is fresh on the entry, quite crisp and taut, almost pinched, in fact. After the pleasing aromatics, this feels a little disjointed, and the oak is not as deftly integrated as its peers. Perhaps more bottle age will meld it together? Tasted March 2015. [Neal Martin, 28/09/2017]
