Château de Beaucastel Hommage à Jacques Perrin Châteauneuf du Pape is a profound and iconic wine, offering depth, complexity and remarkable ageing potential.

Deep ruby in colour with intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, garrigue, black olive, spice and hints of leather and earth. The palate is full bodied and powerful, yet refined, with dense dark fruit, firm but polished tannins, fresh acidity and a savoury mineral core that brings precision and energy.

The finish is long, layered and harmonious. This is a benchmark Châteauneuf du Pape, drinking well with patience and decanting but built for long term cellaring. A wine of exceptional character, balance and longevity, capturing the essence of its terroir and the legacy of the Perrin family.

Tasting Notes

Vinous 98.5

The 2010 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin is a monumental achievement from the Perrin family. Its kaleidoscopic nose kicks off with hauntingly fragrant rosewater, forest floor, kirsch, tobacco, lavender, ripe blackberry and black cherry compote. Crushed rocks add yet another layer of complexity. This ambitious red masterfully balances finesse and intensity with marked flavor concentration, culminating in an almost never-ending, nuanced resolution. Anyone fortunate enough to own this singular Chateauneuf-du-Pape can consider themselves really, really lucky. That said, I have a feeling the best is yet to come. [Nicolas Greinacher, 01/11/2025]

Wine Advocate 98+

Tight, dense and backward, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin was one of the least approachable wines in the lineup, yet certainly has incredible potential. Offering lots of liquid minerality, crushed rock, blueberry, truffle and cassis, it’s massive and concentrated on the palate, with building tannin, good acidity and a firm, focused feel that begs for cellaring. Hide these in the cellar for another decade. Coming mostly from a plot of old vines located behind the estate, the Perrin Family’s Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin was first created in 1989 and is a tribute to the late Jacques Perrin, who passed away in 1978. Aged all in foudre and normally a blend of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache, 10% Counoise and the rest Syrah, it’s only produced in top vintages and there’s normally a scant 400-500 cases to go around. It’s an incredible, yet atypical Chateauneuf du Pape due to its high Mourvedre content. While most vintages require upwards of a decade of cellaring, the more forward, sexy vintages can certainly be enjoyable in their youth as well. [Jeb Dunnuck, 01/02/2015]
