Tasting Notes
Vinous 88
The 2012 Baron de Brane has an expressive bouquet that is equally divided between red and black fruit, all well defined; hints of dark chocolate and leather develop in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin; not overtly complex, but there is satisfying depth and grip toward the slightly meaty finish. Drink this now and over the next four to five years. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château.
Anticipated maturity: 2018-2025
Robert Parker 87
The Baron de Brane is a blend of 33% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and represents 38% of the crop. It has a lifted, surprisingly opulent forest floor and graphite scented bouquet that would benefit from more vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, very foursquare perhaps with a sedate, very classic, tobacco-laced finish. This will provide decent early medium-term drinking. Tasted April 2013.
