NV Delamotte Brut

One of the more underrated houses in Champagne, Delamotte is the parent property of the legendary Salon. Built around chardonnay (55%), the Brut NV uses grapes grown in the "Big 4" villages of the Cotes des Blancs - Mesnil, Cramant, Avize and Oger. The pedigree of Delamotte is on full display here.

In the wise words of Oscar Wilde, “Pleasure without Champagne is purely artificial” and we couldn’t agree more! We use Champagne to mark a celebration, a tradition which dates back to the 5th century when the King of France received a bottle to mark his Holy Communion. Over time it gained popularity and, by the mid 1800’s, it had become the drink synonymous with celebration amongst the royals and the gentry alike. Notably, it was used to toast the end of the French Revolution. Production in the Champagne region expanded which saw a reduction in the price. This meant more people could afford it but it has remained reassuringly expensive to this day, which is why it is still the choice for many to mark a special occasion.
