This week we are thrilled to be joined by Jean-Antoine Nony, owner of firm Team Marlo favourite Chateau Grand Mayne in St. Emilion. Grapes from the 2020 harvest have been picked and fermented and, now that the wine is safely resting in barrel, Jean-Antoine has a few moments to bring us up to speed with goings on at Grand Mayne

1. Tell us what's been happening at Chateau Grand Mayne recently?

The harvest has just finished and we're very very happy with the quality - this is another exceptional vintage. Most of our wines have finished their fermentation and now we're starting to run off the wine from the tanks into the barrels.

2. What was your childhood dream?

I wanted to be taxi driver! Being paid to drive - I thought that was the best job in the world!

3. Is there a book by your bedside at the moment?

At the moment, I am reading a book about our former president 'Jacques Chirac'. I like politics, even though I think politicians all over the world are a lot worse today than they were in the past…

4. If you could own one painting in the world, what would it be?

I couldn't choose one painting - there are so many I love! For modern art, I recently fell in love with the work of 'Anselm Kiefer'. I especially like his paintings of desert landscapes. For more traditional art, I am always astonished by the Flemish/Dutch paintings from the 17th century - Rubens, Van Dyck, Vermeer.

5. What is your ideal last meal?

First of all, I will need to have my wife with me, my two beautiful children and my best friends. Then, some great bottles of wine and some delicious specialities of duck and beef from the south west of France!

6. What is your greatest achievement?

My children and the next vintage!!

7. Is there anything exciting on the horizon for Chateau Grand Mayne in the coming months?

Due to the pandemic crisis many projects are in standby at the moment. However, we are planning to renovate the interior of the Chateau in order to host the dear clients and friends of Grand Mayne.
