Food: In 2018, head chef James Cochran unveiled his latest culinary venture on Islington's Upper Street, marked by its striking matte black entrance. Winner of the 'Champion of champions' on BBC 2's Great British Menu. Cochran hails from the oyster-rich town of Whitstable and his culinary journey includes stints at Wheelers Oyster Bar and training at the prestigious Michelin-starred establishments, The Ledbury and Harwood Arms. You’ll find cracking modern British here.

Trullo

Where: 300-302 St Paul's Road, Canonbury, London, N1 2LH.

BYO deal: £25 a bottle.

Food: A British take on Italian Cooking. Toby says, “it’s the tits!” Tim Siadatan was one of the unemployed young people picked to train in Jamie Oliver’s 'Fifteen' project. He launched his own restaurant Trullo in 2010 and has since written a cookbook in. His focus is on delivering exceptional food, whilst embracing a more relaxed vibe.

Marlo loves: The Pappardelle with beef shin ragu and Pig ear fritti with anchovy. Will says “the polenta chips with blue cheese was also epic”.

Perfect for: Dinner with the new in laws.

 

Mangal 1

Where: 10 Arcola Street, London, E8 2DJ.

BYO deal: Free corkage.

Food: Mangal serves food cooked on a large open charcoal grill (ocakbasi). This is a neighbourhood restaurant adored by many, including a host of foody celebrities, such as Jamie Oliver and Yotam Ottolenghi. There is also a Mangal 2 in Stoke Newington.

Marlo loves: The freshly cooked bread!

Perfect for: Catching up with mates.

Parakeet

Where: 256 Kentish Town Rd, London NW5 2AA.

Food: A gem of a Gastro Pub on the heart of Kentish Town, also the people behind ‘The Blues Kitchen’. This place is warm and welcoming and has an awesome weekday menu along with a delicious Sunday roast menu.

Marlo loves: Toby had the Roast Lamb, which he said was “banging.”

Perfect: Weeknight date nights or a Saturday or Sunday with loved ones.

Band of Burgers

Where: 23 Camden High St, London NW1 7JE.

Food: A great little burger spot, sourcing quality meats and different cuts from Britian’s best butchers. Now one of six restaurants in London, you can create your own smash burger from as little as £9.

Marlo loves: The Brown Butter Smash Burger was bangin!

Perfect: Starting or ending the night!

 

The Gatehouse

Where: 1 North Road, Highgate, London N6 4BD.

BYO deal: £15 for wine, £20 for fizz.

Food:  Located in leafy Highgate village, The Gatehouse is a proper local village pub with a large bar and dining area, a gorgeous beer garden and London’s highest theatre, upstairs.

Marlo loves: Aged Herefordshire Sirloin of Beef and Horseradish.

Perfect: For Sunday lunch after a long walk with friends on Hampstead Heath.
