Rioja

The UK is one of the top export markets for Rioja. With a wealth of historic family-owned bodegas, making approachable and outstanding wine, generation after generation, it's easy to see why us Brits have fallen in love with it. Have you ever been to a restaurant and not seen Rioja on a wine menu?! It's a large denomination in north central Spain covering 54,000 hectares. There is a diverse variety of geographical landscape which is perhaps Rioja’s secret to great quality wine. Spread across three provinces - Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja, and spanning 75 miles, each province provides varying soil, climate and topography which contributes to many different styles of Rioja. What makes Rioja most exciting right now though, is the new wave of wine makers who are pushing the boundaries of Rioja as we know it and creating modern, forward-thinking wines. Watch this space!
